I had met Chelsea through a breastfeeding group for mom's while I was pregnant. I had reached out to her and after chatting a bit, she offered her doula services which we were immediately on board for. Chelsea came over to our house to meet my husband and get to know us. She wanted to make sure we were comfortable with the people we had in our birthing space and, while Chelsea let us know there was no pressure to book her, we knew right away we wanted her there during our baby's birth.
I was already at the end of my pregnancy so Chelsea was on-call right away. She often checked in, not only about the baby and early labor signs, but to see how I was feeling emotionally. I felt very comfortable asking Chelsea questions and she was very knowledgeable and comforting with her responses.
On my birthing day, my husband called Chelsea to let her know I was in active labor and when we got to the hospital she showed up shortly after. I had a quick natural labor, however, it was intense. Right away Chelsea had helped me change my breathing which made contractions a million times easier as well as she had done some other coping measures to make me more comfortable.
My husband wanted to be involved as much as possible so Chelsea taught him some techniques to use on me while I was in the tub and in the bed. She instilled confidence in my husband which made it a very special and intimate time for us during our son's birth!
We wanted to have as little interventions as possible but while pushing, had to make some quick medical decisions. We were grateful Chelsea was there to make sure we followed our birth plan while ensuring baby's quick and safe delivery.
A few days after we got home from the hospital Chelsea made a house visit to check on our baby and us as a new family.
We became quick friends and she is still so helpful with any new mom questions I have to this day!
We are so grateful to Chelsea during our baby boy's birth. I truly feel labor and our entire birthing experience was easier and therefore more memorable because of Chelsea's helpful presence!
